Zero is an integer, the literally meaning of Zero is nothing or empty. In number line of modern mathematics Zero is placed in center, which reveals in its one side there are negative numbers and in its another side there are positive numbers. Zero is the only number which is neither positive nor negative.

It was not so much amazing and of proud for Indians to know how Zero was invented in comparison with the fact that Indians are the first to give out rules of using Zero to the world. 628 A.D. was the time when an Indian mathematician Brahmagupta had given out rules of using Zero for first time in his book Brahmasphutasiddhanta. It was the first known literature which looks Zero as its own identity of an integer.

Brahmagupta had given number of rules associated with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of Zero in his book Brahmasphutasiddhanta . Like:-

1. The sum of zero and a negative number is negative.

2. The sum of zero and a positive number is positive.

3. The sum of zero and zero is zero.

4. Zero divided by a negative or positive number is either zero or is expressed as a fraction with zero

as numerator and the finite quantity as denominator..

5. A positive or negative number divided by Zero is a fraction with Zero as a denominator.

6. Zero divided by zero is zero.

According to Modern Mathematics all the rules stated by Brahmagupta are correct except rules regarding division by Zero because according to Modern Mathematics Zero divided by Zero is indeterminate and any positive or negative number divided by Zero is infinity (either positive infinity or negative infinity). Since, Brahmagupta and Modern Mathematics differs from each other, it is sure that either Brahmagupta is correct or Modern Mathematics.

[ However, AnkuR Tiwari in his book “Mystery of Zero" had tried to explain what may be the reason and what Brahmagupta wanted to explain in his rules. This was one more feature of AnkuR Tiwari’s book ‘Mystery of Zero - Shoonya Ka Rahasya’ ]

Scientists are engaged in finding out the method to divide any number by Zero because number of fields in Mathematics are unknown and undefined because of absence of any method to divide by Zero. For example, in Trigonometry four trigonometric ratios are not defined because they all are in form of X divided by 0. For computer also any number divided by Zero is undefined command. At present if we put out command in any ordinary calculator to divide any number by Zero than it will give us an error message showing that it is not possible for it to divide by Zero. If division by Zero error enters as binary codes in the processor of any computer than it may cause that computer working to stop.

First person who thought for division by Zero was an Indian mathematician Brahmagupta. He should be credited for it. At present I (AnkuR Tiwari) also had done a little effort in this field by inventing out a new formula which is capable of dividing by Zero. I had devoted this formula to my country by naming it as ‘Bhartiya New Rule for Fraction’.
